Heather. Project Manager, Mom of 1; Cary, NC

With Rita, I have learned how to make small goals and meet them, and then add more goals and meet them too — a little at a time. I’ve learned how to “get back on the wagon” when I fall off from meeting my goals. I’ve also learned that a life coach is perfect for making life changes — it’s about concentrating on the future and what I am doing Right Now to make my life what I want it to be.

I asked Rita to be my life coach because I generally knew what changes I wanted to make in my life… I just didn’t know how to make them. I felt like I was going around and around trying to make changes. I didn’t understand why the changes weren’t working or sticking around. After trying many things, and not getting anywhere, I ended up feeling really really frustrated; I felt like maybe the changes were just too big to make.

In our first session, Rita and I discussed how we would work together to make and track small, manageable changes, like how to eat more healthy. It’s funny because I’m a project manager so I know how to do this at work but not in my personal life! Things weren’t clicking for me on my own. I’ve been to therapy before, so I didn’t feel like I needed to uncover my “issues”. I needed to make life changes!

Rita is incredibly patient and insightful. Making life changes is the hardest thing to do because it means we have to change our thinking and our actions, both of which have been entrenched and habitualized. Rita reminds me over and over about the little things that are impeding my process, and she never gives up. Neither do I!

Over time, with Rita’s guidance, I have learned a lot about what I am doing and what needs changing. Rita helped me become more aware of my entrenched ideas and habits, and then helped me create goals to change them. Eating right and giving myself more self-care time has been at the center of some of our work and I am so much better at them than when I started.

Rita’s background in art therapy helps me connect with my artistic self too, and we regularly use imagery to help us understand what I am feeling and thinking. ┬áRita has helped me┬ádevelop some new modest habits that built upon themselves and help me gain more happiness in my day-to-day life as well as more authenticity and connection with my real self.
